Adapter Arm enables you to use the AN/PVS-14A over your right eye as shown here... ...or your left eye as shown here Depressing the eye position button enables you to switch between the left and right eye, while rotating the knurled eye position fine tuning knob enables you to dial in the exact eye position right for you. These features are only available on this product! The L-3 EOS facemask mount is design to distribute the weight of the AN/PVS-14A along the top of your head via a well ventilated fabric mesh and along the four padded face pads. This design provides less fatigue when used for long periods of time and no "hot spots" digging into your head which cause discomfort. The AN/PVS-14A is a self-contained system operating on one AA battery and featuring a manual gain control for various brightness conditions. A red low-battery indicator appears in the eyepiece when the battery needs replacement. The AN/PVS-14A also features an active projected IR LED for short range illumination allowing such activities as map reading. A red IR LED on indicator appears in the eyepiece when the active projected IR LED is turned ON to warn the operator that someone using night vision equipment can see this IR LED. The main advantage to being able to adjust the gain on the AN/PVS-14A is to balance brightness and contrast. Under some conditions, turning the gain down will provide the AN/PVS-14A's Operator with more details of the scene being observed.
